More snow forecasted this week with ski areas like Arctic Valley expected to receive as much as 1" in the next 5 days. Alyeska Resort is slated to receive up to 40" of more snow, and Bartlett High School Cross Country Ski Trails could see as much as 1" of fresh powder on the slopes in the coming days. Alaska’s skiing history is rich and fascinating. In 1939, the first ski lift in Alaska was installed at Anchorage’s Hilltop Ski Area. In the 1940s, World War II brought an influx of soldiers to the state, many of whom were avid skiers. 2. Eaglecrest Ski Area: Located on Douglas Island, Eaglecrest Ski Area is Juneau’s local ski hill. With an average snowfall of 300 inches, Eaglecrest offers 640 skiable acres and is perfect for families and beginners. The best month to visit Eaglecrest is March, when the weather is mild and the snow is plentiful.

3. Arctic Valley Ski Area: Located in Anchorage, Arctic Valley Ski Area is a community-based ski hill that offers 500 skiable acres and an average snowfall of 200 inches. The best month to visit Arctic Valley is April, when the days are long and the skiing is excellent.
