No reservations or permits are required for general camping, but a wilderness permit is needed for backcountry access beyond the lake. Camping is free. Amenities are minimal: there are no toilets, water, fire rings, grills, or picnic tables, so campers must be self-sufficient and follow Leave No Trace principles. RVs are not recommended due to rough access roads. The area offers a quiet, remote alpine setting with granite peaks, forested shores, and trail access to the John Muir Wilderness. Best time to visit: July–September.
