A free self-issued wilderness permit is required. There are no amenities: no toilets, water, fire rings, picnic tables, RV access, or hookups. Campers must follow Leave No Trace principles. Nestled in a stunning high-alpine meadow on the Timberline Trail, Elk Cove offers breathtaking views of Mount Hood and wildflower blooms in summer. Popular with backpackers, it’s serene, remote, and best visited July–September when snow has melted. Nearby trails include the Timberline Trail and connections to the Pacific Crest Trail. Expect solitude and unforgettable scenery.
