ARGONAUT PEAK

Mountains and Summits

Pacific Ranges Cascade Range

Argonaut Peak

8,453 ft

Argonaut Peak is a prominent summit located in the Pacific Ranges mountain range in Washington State, USA. Standing at an impressive elevation of 8,454 feet (2,577 meters), it offers a challenging yet rewarding mountaineering experience for adventurers. The peak is part of the Snoqualmie Pass region and is known for its stunning alpine scenery and technical climbing routes.

During the winter season, Argonaut Peak receives a significant amount of snowfall due to its location in the Cascade Mountains. The snowpack range can vary greatly depending on the year, with an average accumulation of around 10-15 feet. This makes it a popular destination for backcountry skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.

Several creeks and rivers are fed by the runoff from Argonaut Peak, including the popular Pratt River and its tributaries. These waterways provide a habitat for various fish species, such as trout, and offer opportunities for fishing and backpacking expeditions in the surrounding wilderness.

In terms of history, the name Argonaut comes from Greek mythology, referencing the group of heroes who sailed with Jason in search of the Golden Fleece. The peak's name was given by Albert Hale Sylvester, a prominent early explorer and surveyor in the region. While there are no specific legends or lore associated with Argonaut Peak, its proximity to other peaks with rich Native American and pioneer histories adds to the overall appeal of the area for mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts.
