Green Valley, a privately owned dam located in Mariposa, California, serves the primary purpose of water supply for irrigation and domestic use. Constructed in 1957 by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, this earth-type dam stands at a height of 33 feet and has a storage capacity of 240 acre-feet. Situated on Smith Creek in Briceberg, the dam spans a length of 1040 feet and covers a surface area of 20 acres, with a drainage area of 0.59 square miles.

Despite its age, Green Valley dam has a low hazard potential and is deemed to be in satisfactory condition as of the last assessment in September 2017. State regulated by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) for safety compliance, the dam undergoes regular inspections to ensure its structural integrity and operational effectiveness. With a designated emergency action plan (EAP) and a history of meeting regulatory guidelines, Green Valley dam plays a crucial role in managing water resources and maintaining water supply stability in the region. As climate change impacts continue to pose challenges to water availability, dams like Green Valley are essential assets in safeguarding water security for communities and ecosystems.
