Built in 1965, this dam serves the primary purpose of tailings storage and stands at a height of 25 feet with a hydraulic height of 17 feet. With a maximum storage capacity of 750 acre-feet and a normal storage capacity of 550 acre-feet, Oxy-1 covers a surface area of 32 acres and has a drainage area of 0.05 square miles. The dam is situated on the Suwannee River and is under the regulatory jurisdiction of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
Despite its low hazard potential, Oxy-1 is considered to have a very high risk level (1) based on a risk assessment. The dam features a controlled spillway with a width of 20 feet and is equipped with other controlled outlet gates. While the last inspection dates back to September 2005, the condition assessment of Oxy-1 is marked as 'Not Rated'. Furthermore, there is no Emergency Action Plan (EAP) prepared for the dam, and the risk management measures are not specified. Oxy-1 is not owned or funded by any federal agencies, and its operations and maintenance are solely managed by the private owner.
