Massanutten Resort

Massanutten Resort, located in Virginia, offers a variety of slopes for skiers of all levels. The best trails for advanced skiers are Paradice and Diamond Jim, while beginners can enjoy the gentle slopes of the Easy Street and Upper Showtime trails. An interesting fact about Massanutten is that it was originally a family farm that was converted into a ski resort in the 1970s. For beginners, we recommend taking a lesson at the Snow Sports School, which offers classes and private instruction. After a long day of skiing, head to Base Camp for some après ski drinks and snacks.

015 FXUS61 KRNK 060624 AFDRNK Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Blacksburg VA 224 AM EDT Sat Jun 6 2026 .WHAT HAS CHANGED... Forecast updated per recent guidance. Air Quality Alert for Stokes, Rockingham and Caswell Counties in North Carolina until midnight EDT Saturday night. && .KEY MESSAGES... KEY MESSAGE 1: Isolated severe storms possible Sunday in parts of the far east otherwise daytime showers and storms for much of next week. && .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGE 1: Isolated severe storms possible Sunday in parts of the far east otherwise daytime showers and storms for much of next week. Expect a dry and warm start to the weekend, then guidance is in some consensus with a weak front sagging southward into the far north and east part of the CWA for Sunday. Given the progged instability axis and rather marginal deep layer shear of 20-25 kts, a few isolated strong to severe storms could occur in the far east with strong to damaging winds as the main threat. Otherwise more ample deep layer moisture and a weak upper disturbance slowly builds into the area for next week allowing for diurnally induced convection, though a ridge of high pressure to the east may limit development on Monday to just parts of the west. After midweek, while in the wake of the upper disturbance the lingering airmass remains rather moist and conditionally unstable so continue pops of daily showers and storms. Temps look to become higher in this time period as well with parts of the Piedmont possibly reaching highs in the mid to upper 90s. && .AVIATION /06Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... VFR conditions look to prevail across all terminals through the TAF period. The one exception may be some brief sub-VFR VSBYs with the river valleys of KLWB early Saturday morning. With more clear skies than initially forecast, the likelihood of these sub-VFR VSBYs developing has increased at KLWB. Some upper level cirrus looks to push into the region early Saturday, but these clouds don`t look to move into the area in time to prevent some river valley fog from developing. Winds will generally remain out of the west/southwest at around 10 knots or less through the TAF period. EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK... VFR conditions will persist through much of the extended TAF period, outside any shower/storms that occur. Higher probability for sub-VFR look to develop Sunday night into Monday as high pressure wedges in with easterly flow bringing lower cig potential for most sites. && .RNK WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... Mountain & avalanche safety

Know before you go
Check today's avalanche bulletin from the regional avalanche center before any off-piste / side-country / backcountry travel. Conditions can shift dramatically between morning and afternoon on storm days.
Carry the gear, know how to use it
Beacon, shovel, probe. Practice companion rescue on a calm day, not during a real burial.
Mind the weather window
Heavy snow + wind builds wind slabs at ridgelines. The day after a storm is often the riskiest in the backcountry, even if the resort itself is open.
Respect closed terrain
Ropes are there for a reason. Even in-bounds, ducking a closure can trigger a slide that catches you and others below.

FAQ

About Massanutten Resort

Where does the snow data for Massanutten Resort come from?

Snowpack, SWE, 24-hour snowfall, and air temperature come from the nearest USDA NRCS SNOTEL station. Forecast comes from the National Weather Service / yr.no feed that Snoflo's iOS app uses.

How often is the snow report updated?

Snowpack and SNOTEL data are updated continuously by NRCS (typically hourly). The 15-day weather forecast is refreshed throughout the day. Snoflo caches and renders the most recent observation -- look for the "as of" timestamp on the snowpack hero.

What's the elevation at Massanutten Resort?

See the Resort Metrics panel above for base / summit / vertical drop. The summit elevation drives snowpack accumulation -- higher summits hold snow longer through spring.

How is "% of normal" calculated?

Today's snowpack is compared to the average snowpack on this calendar day across every recorded year at the nearest SNOTEL. 100% means right on average; 130% is a big year; 60% is thin.

What ski resorts are near Massanutten Resort?

See the Other Ski Areas pill grid at the bottom of the page for resorts within driving distance. The sister Other Ski Areas card in the Plan-a-longer-trip grid above shows the closest few.

Can I get alerts when fresh snow hits?

Yes -- snow alerts are managed in the Snoflo iOS app. Favorite this resort, set a snowfall threshold (e.g. "alert me when 6+ inches"), and you'll get a push the moment the SNOTEL crosses.
