CAMPING CALIFORNIA

Walker Pass

April 24, 2024

Walker Pass Camping Area is located in the eastern part of the Sequoia National Forest in California, and sits at an elevation of 5,250 feet. The camping area is surrounded by picturesque views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the nearby Joshua Tree Forest is a unique attraction. The area is also home to the Pacific Crest Trail, which is popular among hikers and backpackers.

The campground has 29 sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. There are also vault toilets and potable water available for campers. It operates on a first-come-first-serve basis, so it is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot.

An interesting fact about the area is that it was named after Joseph R. Walker, a famous Mountain Man and guide who led explorations through the area in 1834.

The best time to visit the Walker Pass Camping Area is during the late spring or early fall when the weather is mild. The average temperature in May is around 67 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 41 degrees Fahrenheit at night. In September, the average temperature is around 79 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 52 degrees Fahrenheit at night.
