Completed in 1970, this earth dam serves primarily for recreational purposes, offering a serene setting for activities such as fishing and boating. With a height of 13.5 feet and a length of 100 feet, the dam holds a normal storage capacity of 115 acre-feet and covers a surface area of 26 acres.
Although classified as having a "Significant" hazard potential, the dam's condition was assessed as "Satisfactory" during the last inspection in August 2015. It is regulated by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), which oversees its permitting, inspection, and enforcement activities. The spillway, with a width of 40 feet, is uncontrolled, allowing excess water to flow out in case of heavy rainfall to prevent overtopping and flooding downstream. Despite its moderate risk rating, the dam continues to provide a valuable recreational resource for the community while maintaining a satisfactory condition to ensure public safety and environmental protection.
