About the Area

Mammoth Mountain, located in the Eastern Sierra region of California, is part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The resort sits on the slopes of Mammoth Mountain itself, which is a lava dome complex that is part of the Long Valley Caldera. The mountain has an elevation of 11,053 feet and offers over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain.

Other nearby mountain ranges that can be seen from Mammoth Mountain include the White Mountains to the east and the Inyo Mountains to the southeast. These ranges add to the scenic beauty of the area and provide a stunning backdrop for skiing and snowboarding at the resort.

Mammoth Mountain is a top ski resort in the United States located in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains. The resort boasts over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain, beautiful scenery, and a lengthy ski season. The best trails are the black diamond runs, such as the Paranoid Flats, which offer challenging terrain for advanced skiers. An interesting fact about Mammoth Mountain is that it is a volcano, and its last eruption was about 57,000 years ago. For beginner skiers, we recommend the gentle slopes of Little Eagle, which offer a great introduction to skiing. For an apres-ski drink, head to the Mammoth Brewing Company, which offers a range of locally brewed beers and delicious bites.

Spring skiing is still going strong at Mammoth Mountain this April 29, with a solid snowpack depth of 37 inches—over 7% above average for this time of year—offering excellent late-season conditions. Overnight temperatures dipped to a crisp 30.9°F, helping preserve snow quality across higher elevations. With 3.16 inches of fresh snow expected over the next 72 hours and up to 4 inches in the five-day outlook, skiers and riders can anticipate a refreshing dusting to keep the slopes soft and playful.

The mountain remains open and buzzing, continuing its reputation as one of the longest-running ski seasons in North America. However, recent headlines underscore the need for caution, as an avalanche earlier this season involved ski patrol members, with one in critical condition. Skiers are reminded to stay inbounds and adhere to safety advisories. On a brighter note, Mammoth is investing in guest and employee experience, with plans underway to replace the iconic Broadway Chair #1 with a high-speed six-pack lift. If you're chasing corn snow, powder pockets, or just soaking in Sierra sunshine, now’s the time—Mammoth is delivering a remarkable finale to the 2023/24 season.
