This earth dam was completed in 1925 and stands at a height of 12 feet, with a storage capacity of 115 acre-feet for irrigation purposes. The dam spans 495 feet in length and covers a surface area of 23 acres, with a spillway width of 46 feet.

Managed by the Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR), Geist is regulated, inspected, and enforced by state authorities to ensure its structural integrity and safety. Despite its low hazard potential and satisfactory condition assessment, the risk assessment categorizes Geist as having a moderate risk level. The last inspection in June 2019 deemed the dam to be in good condition, with an inspection frequency of every 6 years.

Located in Fort Collins and situated along Dry Creek-TR, Geist serves as a critical water source for irrigation in the region. With Joe Neguse as the representative for the area, the dam plays a vital role in water management and climate resilience efforts in Colorado. As water resource and climate enthusiasts, Geist's historical significance and ongoing maintenance highlight the importance of sustainable water infrastructure in the face of changing environmental conditions.
