Fairmont, also known as Hilltop, is a privately owned irrigation dam located in Delta County, Colorado. Completed in 1913, this earth dam stands at a height of 23 feet and has a storage capacity of 68 acre-feet, with a normal storage level of 47 acre-feet. The dam spans 600 feet in length and is situated on Leroux Creek, a tributary of the Gunnison River.

Managed by the Colorado Department of Water Resources, Fairmont Dam plays a crucial role in providing irrigation water to the surrounding agricultural lands. With a low hazard potential and fair condition assessment, the dam has been regularly inspected and meets state regulatory standards. The dam features slide and uncontrolled outlet gates, with a spillway width of 14 feet, ensuring effective water release during high flow events.

Despite its high-risk assessment level, Fairmont Dam remains a vital water resource infrastructure in the region, serving the agricultural community in Hotchkiss. As climate change impacts water availability and quality, the maintenance and operation of dams like Fairmont are essential for sustainable water management and agricultural productivity in the face of evolving environmental challenges.
