Managed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, this Earth dam was completed in 1967 and stands at a structural height of 75 feet, with a normal storage capacity of 5200 acre-feet. The reservoir, situated along the Jocko River, covers a surface area of 544 acres and serves as a source of water for agricultural activities in the region.
Despite its high hazard potential, Black Lake has not had a condition assessment available since its last inspection in May 2012. The reservoir's Emergency Action Plan (EAP) was last revised in March 2015, indicating a need for updated emergency preparedness measures. With a very high risk rating and the potential for inundation, stakeholders must prioritize the maintenance and management of Black Lake to ensure the safety and sustainability of its operations for both irrigation and recreational purposes.
