Illinois is currently under multiple severe weather threats as a dangerous line of thunderstorms moves eastward across the state. A Tornado Warning remains in effect until 9:15 AM CDT for areas near Spring Hill and along Interstate 88, with radar-indicated rotation capable of producing flying debris, mobile home damage, and significant tree damage. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings with 70 mph wind gusts are active across northern Illinois, threatening major population centers including Rockford, Chicago's northern suburbs, and communities along I-80. Additional warnings cover the Quad Cities region and extend south through central Illinois counties including DeKalb, La Salle, and Livingston. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 2 PM CDT for 18 Illinois counties, covering cities such as Chicago, Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, and Peoria. Additionally, a Heat Advisory with heat index values up to 105°F is in effect for central and east-central Illinois from noon to 8 PM CDT. Residents should seek shelter immediately if a tornado warning is issued for their area and remain alert to rapidly changing conditions throughout the morning.

Where does the Illinois streamflow data come from?
The U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System. USGS streamgauges report continuously (every 15 minutes) and the data is the canonical real-time record for U.S. rivers. Snoflo pulls the latest readings and joins them to a 7-day NOAA weather forecast for each station.
What is cfs?
Cubic feet per second — the standard unit for streamflow. One cfs is about 7.5 gallons per second. Small creeks run at single-digit cfs; the Mississippi at hundreds of thousands.
What does Gauge Height mean?
The water level at the gauge in feet above the reference datum. Used together with discharge to track river state. Flood stage and runnable levels are typically expressed in gauge height (e.g., "flood at 16 ft").
How fresh is the Illinois data?
