Illinois is currently under multiple Flood Warnings affecting several regions. The Fox River Lower near New Munster in Lake County is expected to crest at 11.1 feet this evening, with impacts affecting the communities of Salem Lakes and Wheatland, including flooding along Riverside Drive, Shorewood Drive, and Highway W, with the warning lasting until Sunday afternoon. The Des Plaines River near Russell in Lake County is experiencing ongoing minor flooding and is forecast to crest at 7.4 feet tomorrow evening, remaining in flood stage through early next week, affecting low-lying wetlands and agricultural areas. Additionally, the Mississippi River at both Louisiana and Clarksville locations is under Flood Warning through Wednesday and Thursday respectively, with the Clarksville location expecting a crest of 25.7 feet Monday morning. Residents in affected areas should avoid flooded roadways and monitor river conditions closely through the warning periods.

Cubic feet per second — the standard unit for streamflow. One cfs is about 7.5 gallons per second. Small creeks run at single-digit cfs; the Mississippi at hundreds of thousands.
What does Gauge Height mean?
The water level at the gauge in feet above the reference datum. Used together with discharge to track river state. Flood stage and runnable levels are typically expressed in gauge height (e.g., "flood at 16 ft").
