**FLOOD CONDITIONS ACTIVE ACROSS ILLINOIS** – Multiple flood warnings and advisories remain in effect across Illinois as of October 2. The Fox River at Dayton (La Salle County) and Des Plaines River near Russell (Lake County) are experiencing minor flooding, with the Fox River expected to crest near 12.6 feet this evening before receding Saturday morning. The Spoon River at London Mills (Knox and Fulton Counties) is forecast to rise to 16.9 feet just after midnight, with minor agricultural flooding expected. A Flood Advisory affecting southern Illinois counties including Hardin, Massac, and Pope Counties warns of urban and small stream flooding from heavy rainfall, with impacts possible in Metropolis and Brookport. A Flood Watch remains in effect for the Fox River Lower near New Munster through Sunday afternoon. Residents in affected areas should avoid flooded roadways and monitor conditions closely through Saturday.

Where does the Illinois streamflow data come from?

What is cfs?
Cubic feet per second — the standard unit for streamflow. One cfs is about 7.5 gallons per second. Small creeks run at single-digit cfs; the Mississippi at hundreds of thousands.
What does Gauge Height mean?
The water level at the gauge in feet above the reference datum. Used together with discharge to track river state. Flood stage and runnable levels are typically expressed in gauge height (e.g., "flood at 16 ft").
How fresh is the Illinois data?
