Virginia's coastal regions are experiencing significant flooding threats as of October 17. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 6 PM EDT today for Hampton/Poquoson, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Norfolk, and Portsmouth Counties, with up to one foot of inundation expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. A High Surf Advisory for Virginia Beach warns of dangerous 9 to 14-foot breaking waves through Tuesday morning. Additionally, a Coastal Flood Watch extends through Tuesday morning for Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Surry, James City, Newport News, and Isle of Wight Counties, with potential one to two feet of inundation possible. Residents should expect road closures, property inundation, beach erosion, and dangerous water conditions. Avoid waterfront areas and low-lying property, and monitor local updates closely.

What is cfs?
Cubic feet per second — the standard unit for streamflow. One cfs is about 7.5 gallons per second. Small creeks run at single-digit cfs; the Mississippi at hundreds of thousands.
What does Gauge Height mean?
The water level at the gauge in feet above the reference datum. Used together with discharge to track river state. Flood stage and runnable levels are typically expressed in gauge height (e.g., "flood at 16 ft").
How fresh is the Virginia data?
