Multiple Coastal Flood Advisories remain in effect across Virginia's tidewater region today, with up to one foot of inundation expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. The advisory impacts major population centers including Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, and Suffolk (expiring at noon), while Richmond, Mathews, and the Northern Neck counties remain under advisory until 2-4 PM. Residents in vulnerable waterfront areas should expect shallow flooding affecting roads, parking lots, parks, and lawns near the shoreline, though property damage threat remains low. Avoid flooded roadways and exercise caution in low-lying areas throughout the day.

Cubic feet per second — the standard unit for streamflow. One cfs is about 7.5 gallons per second. Small creeks run at single-digit cfs; the Mississippi at hundreds of thousands.
What does Gauge Height mean?
The water level at the gauge in feet above the reference datum. Used together with discharge to track river state. Flood stage and runnable levels are typically expressed in gauge height (e.g., "flood at 16 ft").
How fresh is the Virginia data?
