Residents and visitors on Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Niihau, and Maui's north-facing shores should exercise extreme caution, with surf heights reaching 16-22 feet on north-facing shores and 10-16 feet on west-facing shores. Strong breaking waves and powerful currents will create dangerous swimming conditions throughout the day. Major population centers including Honolulu and towns on Kauai's north shore are particularly affected. The water level at the gauge in feet above the reference datum. Used together with discharge to track river state. Flood stage and runnable levels are typically expressed in gauge height (e.g., "flood at 16 ft").
