Iowa is experiencing a dangerous heat emergency across multiple regions through Sunday evening. An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for portions of northwest and west-central Iowa, with heat index values reaching 109-112°F, particularly threatening communities in the Des Moines area, Sioux City region, and central counties including Grundy, Black Hawk, and Marion. Heat Advisories cover additional areas with index values up to 105°F. Dense fog through 10 AM this morning may create hazardous driving conditions. An Extreme Heat Watch extends through Monday evening with indices near 110°F possible. Heat-related illnesses are significantly elevated; residents should limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, check on vulnerable populations, and seek air-conditioned shelter.
