Iowa is experiencing a significant heat event with dangerously high heat index values across multiple regions. The Des Moines metro and central Iowa face heat index values of 100-103°F through Wednesday evening, while southeast Iowa and the Quad Cities area may see even more dangerous conditions reaching 104°F through Thursday. Additionally, northeast Iowa is dealing with dense fog this morning that could reduce visibility to a quarter mile or less, particularly affecting counties including Benton, Jones, Linn, Buchanan, Delaware, and Dubuque. Residents in affected areas should take precautions against heat illness by staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities, while morning commuters should exercise extreme caution in foggy conditions by reducing speed and allowing extra travel time. The fog is expected to dissipate by 9:30 AM.
