Heat Advisories are in effect through Thursday evening, September 3rd at 7:00 PM CDT, with heat index values reaching 102-103°F across central, south-central, northeast, and southwest Iowa, including the Des Moines metro area. An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for southeast Iowa through Friday evening, with heat indices potentially reaching 105°F. The primary concern is the prolonged duration of excessive heat combined with minimal overnight relief, with warm lows between 75-80°F, creating cumulative heat stress.
