Multiple Flood Watches are currently in effect across New Mexico through October 23 at 6:00 AM MDT due to a potent Pacific storm system bringing excessive rainfall. Western, central, and north-central regions along and west of the Continental Divide face the highest risk, with major communities including Farmington, Gallup, and portions of Navajo Nation potentially impacted. Southwest New Mexico areas including Silver City and the Gila region are also under watch. Thunderstorms capable of producing over 1 inch of rain per hour are expected, with localized totals reaching 3 inches possible. Residents should prepare for flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying areas, and low-water crossings. Avoid flood-prone locations and exercise extreme caution during this weather event.
