Dense fog is creating hazardous travel conditions across northern and south-central Montana this morning, September 22. The National Weather Service reports patchy dense fog near and north of Havre extending into northern Blaine County, with visibility expected to improve slowly through mid-morning. More severe conditions exist along Interstate 90 between Aberdeen Hill and Ranchester near Sheridan, where visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less. Motorists in these areas should use low-beam headlights, reduce speed, and increase following distance. Fog is expected to dissipate within a couple hours after sunrise. Additionally, showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain are possible today, with a Flash Flood Watch in effect for portions of the state. Residents should monitor local weather updates and exercise caution during travel.

What is cfs?
Cubic feet per second — the standard unit for streamflow. One cfs is about 7.5 gallons per second. Small creeks run at single-digit cfs; the Mississippi at hundreds of thousands.
What does Gauge Height mean?
The water level at the gauge in feet above the reference datum. Used together with discharge to track river state. Flood stage and runnable levels are typically expressed in gauge height (e.g., "flood at 16 ft").
How fresh is the Montana data?
USGS streamgauges report every 15 minutes; Snoflo re-pulls throughout the day. The AI briefing regenerates daily.
