Montana is experiencing widespread dangerous heat conditions across multiple regions. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for southeast Montana and portions of south-central Montana through Wednesday, with dangerously hot temperatures of 98-106°F and warm overnight lows providing minimal relief—creating significant cumulative heat stress. Heat Advisories and additional Extreme Heat Warnings cover northeast Montana counties including areas around Glasgow and the Fort Peck region, with temperatures between 90-100°F. Central Montana around the Great Falls area is also under heat alerts with temperatures reaching 90-98°F. Residents across all affected areas should take precautions against heat-related illnesses by staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours, checking on vulnerable populations, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles. The combination of extreme daytime temperatures and abnormally warm nights significantly increases health risks through at least Wednesday.

About Montana streamflow
Where does the Montana streamflow data come from?
The U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System. USGS streamgauges report continuously (every 15 minutes) and the data is the canonical real-time record for U.S. rivers. Snoflo pulls the latest readings and joins them to a 7-day NOAA weather forecast for each station.
What is cfs?
Cubic feet per second — the standard unit for streamflow. One cfs is about 7.5 gallons per second. Small creeks run at single-digit cfs; the Mississippi at hundreds of thousands.
What does Gauge Height mean?
The water level at the gauge in feet above the reference datum. Used together with discharge to track river state. Flood stage and runnable levels are typically expressed in gauge height (e.g., "flood at 16 ft").
How fresh is the Montana data?
USGS streamgauges report every 15 minutes; Snoflo re-pulls throughout the day. The AI briefing regenerates daily.
Can I get a flow alert for a Montana gauge?

Is this a substitute for an NWS flood warning?
