Tabor

April 24, 2024

Located in the San Isabel National Forest, the Tabor Camping Area in Colorado is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The campground offers stunning views of the Sawatch Range and is situated near several points of interest, including the Mount Massive Wilderness Area, Turquoise Lake, and the historic mining town of Leadville.

The campground has 23 campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire pit. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water. The campground operates on a first-come-first-serve basis, so it is recommended to arrive early during peak season.

An interesting fact about the area is that it was once home to the Tabor family, who were prominent figures in Colorado's mining industry during the late 1800s. Horace Tabor, who owned several mines in the area, famously invested his fortune in the construction of the Tabor Opera House in Leadville.

The best time to visit the Tabor Camping Area is from late May to early October, with average temperatures ranging from 40°F to 70°F. Visitors can take advantage of the nearby hiking trails, fishing opportunities, and scenic drives. Overall, the Tabor Camping Area offers a picturesque and peaceful escape for nature lovers.
